Open Invitation | Renovation of MARUBI Museum (Phototheque)

The Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Albanian Development Fund and Atelier Albania has launched an international competition on the project “Restoration and Museumization of the National Photo Gallery Marubi” in the city of Shkodër.

This OPEN CALL invites all architects, preservationists, engineers, museologists and curators to come up with a visionary design for a more publicly accessible and contemporary museum. 

The challenge here is much more than deciding how much of the building's history to preserve/restore and how to modernize it in a way that opens it up to the city and its audiences (local & international). It is an opportunity to transform a whole historical, cultural and artistic institution: who it is, how it operates, what it exhibits, why it promotes, etc.
From the way it archives history and restores heritage, to the contemporary dialog it has within and the one it starts with the rest of the city fabric (old and new). 

As I've mentioned before On Preservation: 

Everywhere, urban diversity and historical layers are being replaced by universal, consumer driven, money making aesthetics. According to Koolhaas, this so-called preservation is not favoring the great, the ancient, or that which might deserve it. It has become a selection vulnerable to political motivation and correctness. It is done for the wrong reasons while triggering more development and speculated land values. He argues that the result is a “a new form of historical amnesia, one that, perversely, only further alienates us from the past.”

Galeria Miza ka kënaqësine t’iu ftojë në hapjen e ekspozitës “Pasolini Prossimo Nostro” në 9 Maj, e cila do të qëndrojë e hapur per publikun deri në 2 Qershor, 2013 me punët e katër artistëve qe jane influencuar nga Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922 – 1975) është një nga figurat më kurajoze dhe me influencë në panteonin e artisëve të shekullit të 20të. Me një krijimtari të larmishme, e cila shtrihet në fusha si poezia, filmi dhe piktura, ai qëndron në pararoje të debateve të mes-shekullit (e më tej) mbi pabarazinë, dhunën dhe tjetërsimin e njeriut në modernitet. E interpretuar nga shumëkush si perverse dhe radikale, kritika e Pasolinit mbi modernitetin është edhe romantike: sidomos në film, ai sjell si në përrallë një realitet para-modern, ku njerezit jetojnë pa fe, qeveri apo teknologji. Kjo kritikë është gjithashtu një farë dëshmie ndaj sulmeve kundër vetë atij si homoseksual dhe ateist, aspekte që Pasolini as i mohoi, as i fshehu, por vijoi t’i mishëronte edhe ne trupat e protagonistëve të tij. 

Artistët pjesëmarrës në ekspozitën “Pasolini Prossimo Nostro” janë frymëzuar nga elemente të ndryshëm të veprës të Pasolinit, por sidomos nga idetë e tij mbi pushtetin dhe disiplinimin e trupit, ide të cilat shprehen qartë në dokumentarin e Giuseppe Bertolucci-t po me të njejtin titull (2006). Duke ndjekur xhirimet e filmit të tij të fundit, “Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma” (1975) - gjashtë muaj mbas premieriës të të cilit Pasolini do te gjendej i masakruar në një anë rruge në trajta që i bejnë vuajtet makabre të karaktereve të Salo-s gati profetikete – Bertolucci kap edhe filozofitë bazë të autorit, disa prej të cilave kanë influencuar edhe katër artistët në këtë ekspozitë. 

Siç shohim në punët e Adrian Pacit, Blerdi Fatushes, Endri Danit dhe Leke M. Gjeloshit, të cilët ndoshta për koincidencë, ndoshta jo, janë të gjithë nga Shkodra dhe kanë jetuar e punuar në Itali, filozofia dhe kritika sociale e Pasolinit gjen jehonë të fortë edhe në mometin tonë historik, në Shqipëri dhe tjetërkund.  

Një diskutim i mëtejshëm i punëve të secilit artist do të prezantohet gjatë hapjes së ekspozitës. Ndërsa për të dhene një bazë sa më konkrete të krijimtarisë të Pasolinit, në javët që vijojnë, Galeria Miza do të shfaqë pesë filma që janë përzgjedhur si përfaqesues të veprës të autorit, titujt e të cileve gjenden më poshtë:

Miza Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the group show “Pasolini Prossimo Nostro” [Pasolini Our Next] on May 9, which will be open to the public through June 12, 2013 and will feature the work of various artists who have been influenced by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922 – 1975) is one of the most courageous and influential artists of the 20th century. His oeuvre, which spans poetry, film and painting, stands in the van guard of mid-century (and beyond) debates on social inequality, violence and the alienation of human beings in modernity. Interpreted by many as perverse and radical, Pasolini’s critique of modernity is also romantic: his films frequently present us with alternative, pre-modern realities, where people live in the absence of religion, government or technology. His social critique is also a testimony of attacks on him as a homosexual and an atheist. And yet, these aspects of his being, which Pasolini never denied or hid, continue to be embodied in his films’ protagonists. 

The artists of “Pasolini Prossimo Nostro” have been influenced by and refer to different elements of Pasolini’s vast body of work, but especially his views on power and its effects on the social and individual body, which have been thoroughly articulated [also] in Giuseppe Bertolucci’s documentary with the same title (2006). 

As we see in the works of Adrian Paci, Blerdi Fatusha, Endri Dani and Leke M Gjeloshi who coincidentally or not, are all from Shkodra and have lived and worked in Italy, Pasolini’s social critique is highly relevant even today, in Albania and elsewhere. 

A more detailed discussion of each artist’s work will be presented on the day of the opening of the exhibition. To better contextualize their work and its relationship to Pasolini’s thought, the exhibition will also be accompanied by the screening of five of his films, the titles of which are listed below:
